Altar
In Our Lady of the
Assumption Parish, as in all parishes, there are many household duties
to perform, such as dusting and vacuuming, washing and ironing, etc. We
try to enlist the help of young and old to come each week for an hour
or two to clean the large Altar area, the Blessed Sacrament area, the
cry room, confessionals, 2 sacristies and the choir area; mostly just
dust and vacuum these. We clean and fill the holy water fonts as well.
We do the flowers, Altar cloths, linens, vestments, and candles. We make
preparations for Christmas, Holy Week, Easter, and other church activities. There is
always aneed for volunteers. If you would like to help, please call
Henrietta at 268-7039.
Blankets and
Booties
This group meets regularly on every second and fourth Friday of the
month from 9:30 AM
to 11:45 AM in the Merrifield Room at the Parish Office. Come to
learn to knit or crochet,
to share your time and talent with others, and to have a great
time.
This ministry knits and crochets blankets for children and newborns in
our commuity.
Through this "fellowship for others," more than 300 blankets, 80
pairs of booties and 70
stuffed animals have been donated to the Albuquerque Fire, Albuquerque
Police, and to
Birthright to help brighten many young lives. Blankets and
Booties will gratefully accept yarn
and monetary donations. For more information, please contact
Celine at 298-7926.
Casserole Cooking Ministry
In May 2009, Our Lady of
the Assumption began a “Casserole Cooking” ministry that provides good,
hot meals to the community’s homeless and hungry men, women and
children in our city. The Good Shepherd Center staff has provided
our parish the recipes and covered containers. All we have to do
is follow a recipe, make a casserole, freeze it, and return it to the
parish office.
From May to November,
2009, Our Lady of the Assumption parishioners have made and donated 200
casseroles for our city's homeless. Thank you for your continued
generosity and support!
